What you need to know about the City’s Stormwater Project along William Street (100 Block)

August 3, 2021 | Fredericksburg City News |

Replacement of the William Street storm sewer system, between Caroline and Sophia Street, will start this month. Construction will accommodate customer traffic, businesses in the proximity to the construction are not anticipated to experience prolonged interruptions. Access to businesses remains a critical objective during this project.

All traffic in this vicinity will experience detours beginning August thru November. Parking may be temporarily impacted during construction. Alternate parking includes the parking deck located on Wolfe Street between Sophia and Caroline with the first 4 hours free (then a dollar each additional hour).

Properties along the 100 block of William Street and adjacent the intersections of Caroline and Sophia Streets will experience construction principally within the road and curbing during realignment of concrete piping. Renovation of roof/sump drain connections to stormwater may occur along portions of City sidewalk.

The project will completed in phases. The Sophia Street intersection is part of the first phase of the project to be finished before Chatham Bridge completion. The final phase will conclude the first week of November, 2021. Three of the four project phases are designed to occur during nighttime hours.
