The 5,000-seat multi-purpose stadium next to the Fredericksburg Expo Center is officially under construction — one of several projects now under way at Celebrate Virginia South.

Site work began last week on the future home of the Potomac Nationals. The team, whose new name will be revealed in September, plans to open the stadium on April 23, 2020, team owners Seth and Art Silber told attendees of Fredericksburg’s quarterly Economic Development Breakfast on Tuesday. Art Silber said 1,800 season tickets have already been sold. He said the Carolina League All-Star game will be held in the stadium in 2021. The team has opened a store on the first floor of the Executive Plaza at 601 Caroline St.; it will be open this Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 p.m.

The stadium is just one of several significant projects now under way at the Celebrate Virginia South development. The Silver Companies are well under way on their 577-unit apartment community near the stadium; the project will include both a market-rate and active-adult section. Nearby, at the corner of Carl D. Silver Parkway and Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard, Silver has begun work on a roughly 30,000-square-foot boutique hotel with 24 guest rooms. And an optometrist office for Premier Eyecare is in the works just north of the Sheetz on Carl D. Silver Parkway.
