SlideFXBG another splash-tastic success!
Following last year’s debut in the City of Fredericksburg, SlideFXBG – a three-lane, 1,000-foot slip-and-slide operated by Houston-based Kodiak Events – returned for a second helping of slip-sliding fun-in-the-sun this past weekend.
Relocated to William Street from Hanover Street, this year’s event was turned around in less than 20 hours, from street closure at 3 a.m. Saturday to the slide fully packed away in its 18-foot trailer by 11 the same night. Everything else in between? A bigger success than last year.
Not accounting for the 350+ sponsor-only all-day passes, tickets available to the public through the event’s website were increased from 1200 to 1400, of which 1379 were sold. In addition to this, unlike last year, day-of sales for later waves were available for purchase and 102 passes were sold. All of this resulted in approximately 1,800 kids and kids-at-heart with smiles 1,000-feet wide enjoying the day’s activity.
The event wouldn’t have been possible without the generous contributions of its sponsors: Coldwell Banker Elite, Hilldrup, Lidl, Rappahannock Development Group, Rappahannock Orthodontics, Shifflett’s Waste Service, and Wack General Contractor. Moreover, LifeCare Medical Transports – one of the city’s Fredanthropists – provided on-site EMS services the entire day, and fortunately, there were no incidents that required medical attention.
Equally important, the setup, operation, and breakdown of the slide wouldn’t have been accomplished were it not for UMW Athletics and the student-athlete volunteers they provided from their women’s tennis, softball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and baseball teams. Fredericksburg Youth Roller Hockey provided further support during the operation of the event as well.
The City of Fredericksburg’s Departments of Parks, Recreation, & Events and Economic Development & Tourism were responsible for pulling everything together, and based on all the rave, post-event reviews from sponsors and sliders, the expectation is that the City of Fredericksburg will host SlideFXBG again next year. Thanks also to the Fredericksburg EDA for backing the event financially.
