Fredericksburg’s free shuttle service expanded
Based on customer feedback and route times, the trolley will now stop at two additional places along Sophia Street (at George and Charlotte streets) as well as at the corner of Hunter and Princess Anne streets (which just so happens to be where Carl’s Frozen Custard is located).
The free service runs Fridays and Saturdays between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. The trolley will continue to stop at the six previously established downtown locations. The new route is expected to take 20 minutes. People can use the service to take advantage of the plentiful parking lots along the route and then ride to their favorite restaurants or attractions, or simply to enjoy a scenic trip around downtown Fredericksburg.
The service will be offered in June, July and August — the peak of Fredericksburg’s tourism season — on every Friday and Saturday evening with the exception of First Fridays, when the Fredericksburg Arts Commission already offers a downtown shuttle. The City will evaluate whether to continue offering the service at the conclusion of the three months based on ridership demand. The pilot program is among many strategies the City is pursuing to help fulfill City Council’s goal of better managing the downtown parking supply while increasing the inventory over time.
