Seafood restaurant, brewery coming to FXBG

A modern raw bar that pairs fresh seafood with craft beer brewed on site will open later this year inside the former Spencer Devon Brewing building in downtown Fredericksburg.

The Port Oysteria & Brewery is set to open in a 5,400-square-foot space at 106 George St. that will be fully renovated.

“The concept borrows heavily from the history of the region, blending influence from the former Fredericksburg shipping port and the spirited pasts of other nearby port towns of Alexandria, Virginia and Charleston, South Carolina,” according to the restaurant’s announcement.

The Port is a venture of local business owners Joel Griffin, Kevin Harkins and Carrick Longley.

“The Fredericksburg region is about to become a heavy-hitter when it comes to culinary and dining experiences,” Griffin said. “The restaurant and retail communities work hand-in-hand to create a variety of venues that ultimately establish the environment of a ‘destination location.’ The Port will introduce a seafood-centric flair to an already rich restaurant scene. We are excited to partner with the nearby hospitality community to continue enriching and growing the hidden potential in our area.”

Guests can expect a large feature bar and dining room complete with low- and high-top seating. An adjacent private dining space will be able to accommodate parties up to 14 guests. The central feature will be the raw bar, where guests can watch fresh oysters get shucked. The restaurant will also be available for a full buyout for those needing to accommodate larger parties.
