Riverfront Park, Chatham Bridge now open

October 11, 2021 | Fredericksburg City News | Parks & Recreation

Just a quick reminder in case you missed it that both Riverfront Park and the Chatham Bridge are now open.

People were out in droves this past weekend checking out the new park, and walking, biking and driving across the new bridge.

Work continues on both projects — the grass still needs to come in at Riverfront Park, and the trail connection under the Chatham Bridge between Stafford and Fredericksburg still needs to be completed. Both should be ready in 2022.

But in the meantime go enjoy these two wonderful new amenities for our downtown. One cool way to do this that yours truly did this weekend: Put a kayak or paddleboard into the Rappahannock River at City Dock, paddle past Riverfront Park and then go under the new bridge. Also, remember that parking is free for the first four hours at the nearby Sophia Street Parking Garage.
