Regional Food Bank leases space in FXBG

The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank will be taking over the former home of Rappahannock Goodwill Industries‘ commercial laundry business in Fredericksburg’s Battlefield Industrial Park.

The Food Bank will lease the 24,000-square-foot building at 480 Central Road likely beginning in early fall, said Dan Maher, the organization’s president and CEO.

Maher said it will be used as a complementary facility to the Food Bank’s current site at 3631 Lee Hill Drive in Spotsylvania County, giving the organization almost 19,000 more square feet of warehouse space and about 5,000 square feet of office and meeting space. It will allow the Food Bank to accept additional food commodities and free up space for installation of additional cooler and freezer space at the Lee Hill Drive facility, giving it greater overall organizational capacity for fresh product storage in addition to expanding its dry goods storage capabilities.

Maher said the Fredericksburg site is well-suited to relocate the Food Bank’s volunteer food-packing activities and some of its program staff, which will in turn relieve some of the space constraints for staff and volunteers in the Lee Hill Drive facility. He said the Fredericksburg site will become the principal initial receiving point for commodities shipped from outside the community. Those items can then be shuttled to the Lee Hill Drive site as they are needed.

We welcome the Food Bank to Fredericksburg!
