A popular bourbon-focused bar and restaurant in Washington, D.C., is opening a location this spring in downtown Fredericksburg.

Rebellion Fredericksburg plans to open in April at 309 William St., the former location of The Confident Rabbit and Bistro Bethem. Rebellion D.C. is located between Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan, and the company also has planned or currently open locations in Arlington, Leesburg and Wilmington, N.C. The Washington location has been named as one of America’s Best Bourbon Bars.

The Fredericksburg location is a partnership between PROOFhospitality Management Company, the owner of the original Rebellion locations, and Fold Three Hospitality — which is a venture of Joel Griffin and Brent McCaslin.

The inspiration for the establishment was the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. According to a news release, “Rebellion was created to celebrate American history and this country’s favorite pastime of enjoying great food and drinks. Rebellion offers over 150 types of bourbon and whiskey as well as a great selection of cocktails, wine and beer.”

The company’s news release also stated that “Fredericksburg and Leesburg were the perfect fit for Rebellion’s expansion as two areas that have been able to balance the growth of the region while remaining true to their historical significance.”

Co-owner and Managing Partner of Fold Three Hospitality Joel Griffin said: “As a resident of the Fredericksburg region and a whiskey lover myself, I’m looking forward to seeing the value Rebellion will bring to the area. In addition to adding jobs, we really hope to see that its opening encourages other businesses to look at Fredericksburg as a destination location. When you come into the restaurant, you’ll see a quote by Thomas Jefferson that says, ‘A little rebellion now and then is a good thing.’ Rebellion is embodied in the values of our founding fathers, and we want to bring those values into everything we’re doing here – the environment, the food, the drinks and the impact we make.”
