Here is a welcome break from COVID-19 coverage: Many Fredericksburg construction projects are continuing amid the outbreak. Below is a look at some of the larger ones. We look forward to again focusing on this type of activity! Kudos to the developers of these projects and the City officials who are helping to keep them going amid the crisis (while practicing social distancing and washing their hands often).
- Excellent progress has been made on the new FredNats ballpark. Seats are going in, four of eight light poles are up, the video board is in place, the playing field pads and turf are starting this week, the clubhouse and team office are taking shape, the playground will start soon, and the concrete concourses aren’t far behind.
- Liberty Place in downtown Fredericksburg continues to take shape. Tenants will include Mellow Mushroom, Burger Bach, Pasta Fresca Cafe, Blue Cow Ice Cream, Cary Street Partners and Atlantic Union Bank.
- The Lofts at Frederick Street near the train station is taking shape. The Beanery building rehab is done, and the 17-unit condominium building is under way.
- Work continues at the City’s Riverfront Park project along Sophia Street. A summer 2021 opening is planned.
- While bittersweet, the demolition of the former Free Lance-Star headquarters marks the start of development of the William Square project, which will include residential, commercial and hotel space.
