Today is February 18th, the day Carl’s Frozen Custard finally re-opens for the year. This day is one that Fredericksburg residents look forward to every year.
Carl’s Frozen Custard has been one of the most-popular places in Fredericksburg since it opened in 1947. Every year, people eagerly line up for their homemade custard. People lined up at Carl’s on Friday shared their excitement about the re-opening as they came to get their favorites from milkshakes to old-fashioned chocolate ice cream. I also learned that many of them have been coming on opening day for a long time. One family I spoke to said that they had been showing up to be the first in line on Carl’s opening day for over 20 years. Others I spoke to also said they had been coming to Carl’s for as long as they had lived here.
