Local company purchases former Print Innovators building

The Carpet House Design Center is the new owner of the 85,350-square-foot building in Fredericksburg’s industrial park that formerly housed The Free Lance-Star’s printing operation.

The Carpet House, whose headquarters is on U.S. 1 in Spotsylvania County, offers home-improvement products including flooring, cabinets, appliances and more. The company plans to use the former Print Innovators building at 1381 Belman Road as a warehouse with some office staff, said Carpet House Vice President Doug Simms Jr. It hopes to occupy the space following some minor renovations in a few months. Its existing locations will continue to operate.

Simms said his company might re-use the automated palletizing storage system in the building, but most of the other equipment is being removed from the facility. The FLS now prints the newspaper elsewhere.

The company purchased the building in March for $6.45 million. Lee Cherwek, David Wilkins and Rich McDaniel of Colliers International Virginia represented the previous owner, BH Media Group.
