Lady Legacy under new ownership

Kelly Denke moved to Fredericksburg in 2016. While her day job is the Digital Sales Manager for Telemedia Broadcasting, she dreamed of owning a clothing store in downtown Fredericksburg. When she heard that Barbara Bartz, the former owner of Lady Legacy, was retiring, Denke decided to buy the business. A client of Lady Legacy for years, Denke is thrilled to begin this next journey in her career. 

Lady Legacy is one of the few clothing stores in downtown Fredericksburg that caters to the 50+ age group. Denke’s store places an emphasis on their handbags, as well as spring and summer materials that are rare in Fredericksburg. Denke believes it is essential that the boutiques and stores of downtown work together, in order to increase the visibility of both the community and local fashion. 

“We have a lot of great fashion that is down here,” Denke said. 

Denke also feels it important to give back to the community, which is why she recently partnered with Empowerhouse, a non-profit organization that assists domestic violence survivors. Denke intends to hold fundraisers between Lady Legacy and Empowerhouse, including fashion shows and luncheons. She is also brainstorming a program where people can donate their work clothing to Lady Legacy, which they would repurpose for Empowerhouse clients. Denke hopes to hold these partnered fundraisers by the summer.
