Team owner Art Silber addresses the crowd gathered on Wolfe Street on Saturday, October 5 to learn the team’s new identity.

Several hundred people packed the 100 block of Wolfe Street on a gorgeous fall morning Saturday, October 5 to finally answer the much-asked question: What is Fredericksburg’s new Minor League Baseball team going to be called?

Recently hired team General Manager Nick Hall delivered the news everyone had been waiting for: Our local team will be called the Fredericksburg Nationals, and will likely be referred to as the “Fred Nats.” Hall and his team also unveiled several different logos and an array of team merchandise that is now on sale at the Fred Nats’ store and office on the first floor of the Executive Plaza (601 Caroline Street), which is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Team owner Art Silber also announced that the address of the stadium will be 42 Jackie Robinson Way, a tribute to his boyhood hero and the number that Robinson famously wore.

In the meantime on the stadium site, which is just north of the Fredericksburg Expo Center, the initial concrete for the dugouts and seating bowl is expected to be poured this week after weeks of prep work. Go check out the progress! Opening Day is April 23.

Here are the new logos.
