In the midst of an extremely trying time brought on by the COVID-19 virus outbreak and subsequent public protective measures, Fredericksburg businesses are taking proactive and responsible measures to continue reaching their customers.
Many Fredericksburg businesses have been in constant communication with their customers through Facebook and other social media outlets with up-to-the-minute news. Many have started offering delivery services, curbside pick-up, and online shopping.
This type of innovation and “pivoting” will continue to be necessary due in part to a recent emergency order from the City of Fredericksburg that between March 17-31 limits gatherings to 10 people or less in all settings in order to help reduce the virus spread. That action was in line with a decision by Virginia Gov. Ralph Northan as well as guidance from President Trump, Mary Washington Healthcare and the Rappahannock Area Health District.
The City’s Economic Development Authority will be working to develop plans to assist small businesses, and they will be supported in these efforts by City Council. More aggressive measures may be forthcoming. Staff is also researching what additional resources may be available to help.
