The Fredericksburg Area Museum (FAM) will temporarily close its doors Jan. 1-Feb. 29 as it prepares new exhibits and installations.

The FAM will retire three current exhibits, including “People and Their Pets,” “A Magical Collection” located in the People’s Gallery, and “Our Fredericksburg Story: In Our Own Words.” FAM staff is proud to announce the following new exhibitions:

  • Fredericksburg Baseball: An overview of the history of baseball as it pertains to the Fredericksburg area. This includes Civil War-era baseball, the African-American and Latino baseball experience, and Fredericksburg’s first professional baseball team.
  • SITES- Hometown Teams: A traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution that examines the many roles that sports play in American society. Be sure to see it before it’s gone- this exhibit leaves in April 2020!
  • St. George’s 300th Anniversary: Revel in the fascinating history of one of Fredericksburg’s oldest and most historic churches as they celebrate their 300th anniversary. This exhibit makes its way into the museum in May 2020.

These new exhibitions (and more!) will be revealed at FAM’s March 1 re-opening. Members will have special access to the exhibitions prior to the public opening.

For more information on the museum closing or the new exhibits, follow FAM on Facebook or contact Caroline Ford at [email protected].
