Freddy Donuts building features well-known muralist

Ever wonder the story behind the colorful mural on the Kenmore Avenue side of the Freddy Donuts building in Fredericksburg? Turns out it’s the work of a famous Los Angeles-based graffiti muralist named Jules Muck.

The mural features a snake wrapped around a strawberry-frosted donut with sprinkles (the manager of Freddy Donuts has an affinity for reptiles).

In October, an employee of Freddy Donuts who follows Muck learned that she was in Richmond and messaged her through Instagram. Muck wrote back that she would be there the next day, when she arrived as planned and completed the mural freehand in two hours. She signed the mural with her Instagram handle, “Muck Rock.”

Five days later, the mural was featured in a YouTube video by well-known artist Moriah Elizabeth that as of this posting had received almost 4.4 million hits (look for the mural about 5:23 in).

Go check out this cool mural for yourself, and while you are there sample some of Freddy Donuts’ tasty offerings!
