The City of Fredericksburg will continue a pilot program to close some downtown parking spaces to allow for larger sidewalk seating areas until the end of Phase 2 of Gov. Ralph Northam’s “Forward Virginia” reopening plan.
On-street parking spaces were closed a couple of weeks ago in front of Sammy T’s, Fahrenheit 132, Castiglia’s, Vivify, La Petite Auberge and Capital Ale House. Those parking spaces became the pedestrian walkway, allowing for more tables on the sidewalk.
Restaurants are allowed to reopen their dining rooms with 50 percent capacity during Phase 2. Some of those restrictions are expected to be removed during Phase 3, which is expected to start in 2-4 weeks, subject to COVID-19 data.
The City plans to re-open the affected parking spaces on the day Phase 3 begins. No additional parking spaces will be closed for expanded seating areas beyond what has currently been allowed.
