Duplex for veterans nears completion in Mayfield

by | Mar 9, 2022 | Business Openings

315 McKinney StreetA ribbon-cutting was held Wednesday to celebrate the near-completion of a duplex in the Mayfield neighborhood that will house two veteran families.

The duplex at 315-317 McKinney Street was purchased and thoroughly renovated by a nonprofit organization called Haven for Hero’s Inc. that works to provide housing solutions and a pathway to home ownership for homeless and low-income veterans. This was the organization’s first local project, and more are planned.

Speakers at Wednesday’s event included Fredericksburg Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw, Vice Mayor Charlie “Chuck” Frye Jr. and Haven for Hero’s founders Barzel and Brenda McKinney. The first veteran family that will move into the complex was on hand for the festivities.
