Downtown Greens purchases 56-acre property

Fredericksburg-based nonprofit Downtown Greens closed this week on the purchase of a 56-acre property in the City’s industrial park.

Downtown Greens raised enough money to make a down payment on the land and finance the remainder of the $2.225 million purchase price. The organization is now planning a Phase Two fundraising campaign to pay off the remaining balance on the loan it assumed at closing.

Downtown Greens’ mission is to “protect and nurture urban greenspace through collaborative environmental stewardship and experiential education.” The organization has an array of conservation, educational and agricultural plans for the 56 acres, which is next to Braehead Farm off Tyler Street.
