Craft Beer Month in FXBG

Brewskis. Suds. Breakfast of Champions. No matter the name, there is no stopping the public’s love of beer. In the past decade, amazing craft breweries have been tapped all over Virginia. These breweries throughout the commonwealth have graced us with hoppily scrumptious IPAs and yeastily delicious lagers, among many other styles. Whether you are looking for a gargantuan facility such as Devil’s Backbone or Starr Hill, a farm-based barn brewery such as Bald Top or Old Trade, or a delightfully crunchy warehouse brewery such as Ocelot or Ono, Virginia’s craft beer scene has reminded residents just how delicious they have become. After all, Virginia is for Craft Beer Lovers. Fredericksburg is no exception. Here are four fantastic breweries to visit for Craft Beer Month in FXBG:

  1. Adventure Brewing Eagle Village – Right next to the University of Mary Washington, in the Eagle Village shopping center, Adventure Brewing has the microbrewery feel that so many guests enjoy. Their Fred Red has just the right level of malt for casual beer-drinkers, and the top-quality for strict connoisseurs. Adventure is the perfect spot for visitors of Fredericksburg, as well as returning UMW students (Note: Student ID’s do not count as proper identification, but we hope you knew that already).
  2. Red Dragon Brewery – This Fredericksburg staple in the Canal Quarter District embraces its German-inspired name with brews such as the Bohemian Blonde, a light refreshing ale. In addition to their award-winning lineup of taps, Red Dragon recently brewed a non-alcoholic root beer. This delicious root beer is a great substitute for non-beer drinkers, as well as the perfect palate-cleanser for those who partake in the hops.
  3. Strangeways Brewing – While the two initial locations are located in Richmond, Strangeways has found a lovely home in Fredericksburg. With the largest number of taps of any brewery (36) in Fredericksburg, Strangeways has multiple options for styles such as Belgian ales and IPAs. They also have a gorgeous patio and stage, providing guests with a great spot for weekend music and sips.
  4. Water’s End Brewery – The newest edition to the Fredericksburg brewery scene is located at Fredericksburg Square, a downtown landmark. Fredericksburg is the third location for Water’s End, which has locations in Lake Ridge and Potomac Mills. Currently in the soft opening phase on weekends, Water’s End will open daily once its partner, Hot Chikn Kitchn, is ready to serve to the public at Fredericksburg Square as well. Swing by to enjoy flagships such as the Damn Beer golden ale, or limited-time options like the extraordinary Juice Bucket double IPA.

August is the perfect month to visit each of these wonderful breweries, and taste both your favorite style of beer, as well as a brew that you do not usually sample. You never know what you may enjoy, and the creativity of these breweries will guarantee that your options for great craft beer are unlimited. Drink responsibly!

Note: The four breweries mentioned are located within the 22401 zip code of Fredericksburg. To learn more about the additional breweries of the Fredericksburg Area Beer Trail, follow on Facebook.
