Arts & Cultural District incentive applications due Feb. 15

January 12, 2021 | Fredericksburg Business News | Arts & Culture

The City of Fredericksburg is proud of its arts and cultural community. Therefore, in 2011 an incentive and district were established to increase awareness and support for the arts and related businesses.

The purpose of the district is to attract new arts and cultural venues and support existing ones. This program also increases the City’s reputation and market presence as a regional destination for arts and cultural activities, as well as the opportunities and benefits to City residents of arts and cultural offerings.

Last year, the Fredericksburg Arts Commission and City staff thought it was time to expand the district beyond Downtown/Greater Downtown. In October, City Council voted to expand the district to an area bordered by the Rappahannock River, U.S. 1 and State Route 3. It also includes a small section west of U.S. 1 to include the entire Area 6 Planning Area.

We pose the following questions to you regarding your City of Fredericksburg (22401) business:

  1. Is your business an arts and cultural business, or a non-arts business that hosts year-round, rotating art exhibits (see Ordinance 20-21)?
  2. Is your business located within the newly expanded Arts and Cultural District (view map)?

If you answered yes to both questions, you may qualify for a $250 annual business license tax reduction.

To confirm eligibility please submit the online application by February 15.
