Data centers have become a significant growth sector throughout the U.S. and particularly Northern Virginia as cloud computing gets increasingly common. The Fredericksburg region has identified data centers as an economic development opportunity and has been taking steps to market itself to the industry through competitive tax rates and business-friendly policies. Data centers provide well-paying jobs and generate significant tax revenue.
Monday night’s public information session at Germanna Community College’s FredCAT facility at 1325 Central Park Blvd. was an opportunity to provide information about data centers and answer the public’s questions about the industry. Attendees included City Council, Planning Commission and EDA members, and property owners and other interested parties.
